In 100yr old homes that's acceptable. Even character-adding.

It's a bit early for this one, though.

Hi Jerry.
sure - i just loaded it onto the "Design Package" post.
Pretty simple. A big, flat, rectangular lot running east to west.
An elongated shaped building running in that same direction would (arguably) have been more efficient with regards to solar orientation, but we chose a cube as it used up the least amount of space in all directions. We felt this would allow us to hide it with future landscaping and plus; it looks cool.
There is a 16' X 8' section of glazing along the southern wall that opens up onto the deck; which during the winter months, will flood light and heat well into the space. Via model studies, we know the overhang will block the summer sun from entering this same area. And on the west, a thick grove of pine trees lets us get away with more glazing on that side than we would otherwise.
The east clerestory windows allow morning light and cross ventilation (predominate local winds blow consistently, east to west) while providing privacy.

sheesh...i shoulda just written all that in it's own post, eh?

Do you have a site map showing the orientation of the house? The design looks very cool. By the way, straw bales are a great way to control odd-ball runoff problems that vehicles create. It is exciting to see the progress.

Thanks Aaron.
I actually looked into SIP's for this project (structurally insulated panels) which would've added a prefab element like material efficiencies, QC as well as the incredible R-Value they provide, but it was just too cost prohibitive. Traditional framing is just so cheap and readily available here...and it's what i know, so....
thanks again for checking it out.

Looks amazing Alex, congrats! I've been dreaming of building a house for years now, including prefab, LEED and all those goodies. I'll keep checking this out until it's my turn...
